Grimmi Alp Ski Tour – April 5, 2008
It was my pleasure to attend this ski tour as a guest from the SAC Basel section. I always find all SAC people nice, however, this time everybody was Tip Top. Daniel took seriously his guide role. Just from the beginning as we travelled by bus to Grimmi Alps, he was explaining in both English and Switzer Deutsch (I only speak English) about a big storm few years ago that totally damaged the valley. As we arrived to Grimmi Alps, some of us desperately needed a freshly roasted coffee in the local hotel. And, just after this we put our skis on our arms to march 500 meters to the 1st wet snow.
Going up was relaxing, plenty of time, a slow move of one foot after another. Occasionally hitting the ends of Daniel’s skis we got to the now closed restaurant where we got some food into the mouth. It was good to make a backpack light again. From here we had only 500 m elevation gain to the Gipfel. The group was really funny. From time to time I heard an Apache scream – Yahoo (Swiss Deutsch; Juuuhuuiiiiiiiii). I have to admit this was a new experience, certainly interesting…
On the top it was windy, but the view was great. We made it – and all because of Daniel, he gave a good overview of where it is safe and where we should not go because the avalanche could hit us.
Well, now the challenge started – looking down. Deep snow, deep down. But, people were tip top. Jorg did not let me down. He was following his wife Andrea while saying “I am going peacefully…”. And, I was simply following him, foot after foot. Later on, we all got crazy, just going down, we jumped over the creek, down to Grimmi Alps. And, we landed back in the hotel, all rested full of energy. Then, we really got tired – we had to wait almost two hours for a bus. However, for some of us, it was a sweet break – Marengo with ice cream, dry cherries, lemon beer…
And, the train trip was another adventure. Heavy drinking and a lot of laughing, I guess Rivella must have some shnaps within. Anyway, I came back home so much stronger, in my muscles, the soul, and the mind. Great trip and thank you to all who participated; Daniel, Andrea, Delia, Margreth, Jörg I, Jörg II and Stephan.
